Preparing for my semester abroad in Seattle

Planning my semester abroad in Seattle has made me even more excited. Before my semester abroad in Seattle began, I wanted to plan everything thoroughly to start as stress-free as possible. While the entire process was a bit time-consuming, everything went quite smoothly thanks to the online platform of World of Students. I could upload all the necessary documents directly and track my progress step by step. They also provided me with a list of available courses and acted as the main point of contact between me and the university, which made the process much easier. Afterward, I tackled the visa process, which can also take some time. However, you can rely on the support from World of Students for that as well. Additionally, they created a WhatsApp group for all new students, which allowed us to connect and exchange information even before arriving in Seattle. This was a great way to network in advance and feel less alone!

Since I was traveling with my dog, student housing wasn’t an option for me. So, I started looking for an Airbnb early on, as these tend to get booked up quickly. Luckily, I found the perfect home! I moved in shortly before the first online orientation day, giving me enough time to settle in and prepare for my courses.

When I arrived in Seattle, I was simply overwhelmed! The city has so much to offer – countless restaurants, cozy cafés, and quirky shops on almost every side street. At first, I was a bit surprised by the number of homeless people in downtown, but it was reassuring to see that a lot is being done to ensure safety and community support. The university made the transition super easy as well. There was an orientation day for international students and a welcome dinner for everyone – a perfect opportunity to meet new people and get excited about studying. I was truly amazed by the large international student community and the smaller class sizes, which make learning much more personal. Getting around in Seattle is also very straightforward thanks to the practical bus system, and everyone I’ve met so far has been incredibly friendly and helpful, making the start here very pleasant.

All in all, preparing for my semester abroad was quite a bit of work, but World of Students organized the process really well and helped me stay on track. Now I’m so excited about the coming months in Seattle and discovering all the amazing things this city has to offer!
