Woosong University was founded in 1954 and is located in Daejeon, South Korea. The university has three international schools: SolBridge International School of Business, Sol International School and Endicott College of International Studies. All classes in the International schools are taught in English. Woosong University has signed more than 400 agreements with partner universities and institutions all over the world. Therefore Woosong University is for example offering joint research, dual degree, Student Exchange, and Study Abroad programs.
Woosong University is located in Daejeon, 55 minutes away from Seoul by high-speed train. Daejeon is Korea’s fifth largest city and is renowned for being Korea’s Silicon Valley with about 30 research and development institutions. With a population of 1.5 million, Daejeon has the highest concentration of researchers with more than 7,000 PhD holders living and working in the city.

Visa Information:
Students need a D2 student visa.They can apply for a visa after completing the payment of their fees and receiving our supporting visa documents.
Students are allowed to stay in Korea until two weeks after the semester officially finishes. If they wish to stay longer, they would have to ask permission to change their visa to tourist visa. Decision is at the discretion of the Daejeon Immigration Office.

Visiting and study abroad students are eligible to receive tuition scholarships (from 10 up to 50% per semester).Full-time degree-seeking students are eligible for 30-100% tuition scholarships. Depending on their academic performance and English test score, they will be awarded an admission scholarship for one full semester. Then, in order to maintain their scholarship or increase it, students will have to reach a certain GPA every semester. It is competitive and provides good students with some incentives to continue to study hard and perform well.
Please kindly note that the tuition fees mentioned are provided without scholarships.
Internships:
Students could stay for an internsip. They may have to change their visa in that case, and have to check with their host company.Application Deadline:

With the approval of our Admissions Department, and on a case by case basis, we can usually accept late applications until mid-July or mid-January. After this date, the student may not be able to come to Korea on time. We remain flexible to make it work!
Application requirements:
- Step 1: Please apply online via the link below and submit all required documents- Step 2: schedule an admission interview with our Admissions Manager
- Step 3: after passing the interview, the Admissions Team will send you an acceptance letter and invoice via email
- Step 4: please be advised to proceed with the payment via bank transfer
- Step 5: after payment is received, the Admissions Team will send you the necessary visa documents to the home address and/or electronically
- Step 6: please be advised to apply for the D2 student visa at the Korean embassy in your home country preferably, at your earliest convenience.
Orientation:
Orientation week is mandatory. It takes place in February and August.Fees for orientation week depend on the department.

Auslandsstudium in Südkorea - Unterwegs in Asien - Natascha B.
Im Februar 2024 machte ich mich auf nach Südkorea, um dort mein Auslandssemester zu verbringen. Mein Traum, dieses Land in einem längeren Zeitraum kennenlernen zu dürfen, ging damit in Erfüllung. Das Ziel meines Abenteuers war die Stadt Daejeon, in welcher sich die Woosong University befindet. Als Medien- und Kommunikation-Studentin war es mir besonders wichtig, viele interkulturelle Erfahrungen zu sammeln und neue Menschen und Orte kennen zu lernen. Dafür war die Universität super geeignet.
Nachdem ich die ersten Herausforderungen während der Anreise gemeistert hatte, war es Zeit für viele neue Eindrücke. Da ich zeitgleich mit anderen Freshman und Exchange Students aus den verschiedensten Ländern ankam, konnte man gleich gemeinsam die koreanische Kultur kennenlernen und die ersten Orte entdecken.
In der Woche vor dem Semesterstart gab es neben Infoveranstaltungen auch Ausflüge und Kennenlern-Events, die von der Woosong University veranstaltet wurden. Vor allem ein Field Trip am zweiten Tag hatte mir sehr gut gefallen, da er dazu diente, die Internationals mit den koreanischen Studienanfängern bekannt zu machen. Durch die Begegnungen bei dieser Veranstaltung sind nicht nur tolle Momente, sondern auch echte Freundschaften entstanden. Besonders bei den Themen Kultur, Sprache und Organisation war es toll, koreanische Freunde um Hilfe bitten zu können. Nach einigen Infoveranstaltungen und Unterstützung bei der Kurswahl, war auch schon alles bereit für das anstehende Semester.
Das Studium an der Woosong University bot interessante Fächer. Besonders gut gefallen hat mir der Sound Design Kurs, in dem das Mischen von Audio für die Musik- und Filmproduktion gelehrt wurde. Auch einen Koreanisch Kurs kann man belegen, was ich auf jeden Fall empfehlen würde. So lernt man nicht nur das Lesen und Schreiben der koreanischen Schrift „Hangeul“ und erste Basics für den Alltag, sondern kann sich auch über Erfahrungen in dieser neuen Kultur austauschen.
Insgesamt blieb neben den Kursen auch immer viel Zeit für Freizeit. Dadurch konnte man sich nicht nur den University Clubs anschließen, sondern auch gut neue Orte entdecken. Die Stadt Daejeon liegt relativ zentral in Südkorea und ist gut an das Verkehrsnetz angebunden. Dadurch ist es leicht mit den Schnellzügen verschiedenste Städte und Orte zu entdecken. Südkorea ist auch durch und durch convenient. Egal ob Convenience Stores, die 24/7 geöffnet sind oder die Transportation Cards, mit denen die Benutzung von öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln kinderleicht wird.
Für die Freizeit ist an der Woosong University viel geboten. Die Universität bietet eine Vielzahl von Clubs an, denen man sich jedes Semester anschließen kann. Ich war Teil des K-Pop Dance Clubs und des Game Clubs, in welchem man sich zum Spielen von Gesellschaftsspielen trifft. Mit dem K-Pop Dance Club durfte ich auch zwei Mal bei verschiedenen Veranstaltungen auftreten. Neben diesen gibt es auch unzählige andere Clubs, in denen beispielsweise Filme geschaut, internationale Speisen ausgetauscht, in einer Band gespielt oder auch Videos produziert werden.
Neben den Clubaktivitäten kamen auch Feste nicht zu kurz. Neben gelegentlichen kleineren Events fanden ein Fußballturnier, ein Sportfest und ein Sommerfest statt. Diese Art von Sommerfest ist ein Markenzeichen für koreanische Universitäten. Neben Essensständen und einem coolen Programm auf der Bühne hat man die Chance das Konzert von einem K-Pop Idol zu genießen. An die Woosong University kam dieses Jahr die Sängerin Choi Yena. Wer noch mehr kostenlose Konzerte sehen will, kann auch die Sommerfeste der umliegenden Universitäten besuchen.
Rückblickend würde ich das Auslandssemester als sehr gelungen bezeichnen. Mein Fokus lag darin in die Kultur abtauchen zu dürfen und noch mehr Selbstständigkeit zu erlangen. Auf der Reise, in der Uni und in verschiedensten interkulturellen Situationen erlebt man viele Herausforderungen, die man lernt zu meistern. Zum Beispiel bei der Zusammenarbeit für Projekte in interkulturellen Teams, beim Anpassen an eine unbekannte Kultur und dem Umgang mit möglichen Missverständnissen und dem Zurechtfinden in einer neuen Lebenssituation. Im Dormitory der Woosong University beispielsweise lebt man zu zweit in einem eher kleineren Zimmer, mit einer Person aus einem anderen Land. Da ist es wichtig Offenheit zu zeigen, seine Bedürfnisse zu kommunizieren und einander Raum zu geben. Anpassungsfähigkeit ist eine wichtige Kompetenz, die man dabei lernt.
Aus meiner Erfahrung macht es Sinn, vor der Reise schon einmal die koreanische Schrift „Hangeul“ lesen zu lernen. Das ist tatsächlich nicht sehr schwer, aber sehr hilfreich, da man dann von Anfang an Schilder, Ortsnamen etc. im öffentlichen Raum besser lesen kann. Wer in der Woosong University im Dormitory leben will, sollte außerdem wissen, dass eine Bettdecke und ein Kissen selbst besorgt werden müssen. Das war eine Überraschung für so einige frische Studenten aus dem Ausland! Letztendlich ist der wichtigste Tipp, offen und neugierig zu sein und sich mit anderen zusammenzuschließen. Die Erfahrungen, die man sammelt, wenn man im Ausland am sozialen Leben teilnimmt, sind die schönsten.
