Students who are Visa Nationals just have to apply for the Visitor visa in advance and pay £95. You may not work on a Visitor visa.
Study Abroad students staying for a year or taking an internship will require a Student visa. The cost of this is £348 and, if you are staying for longer than six months, you will also need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge. This is £470 for one year.

City & Living
City features:
Founded by the Romans around AD 45, Londinium became an important and busy centre of world trade. The Thames at that time was 300 metres wide, compared to 100m now, and saw a constant procession of ships bringing goods from around the world. Today you are more likely to see commuter boats and pleasure cruisers on the water but the surroundings still speak of London's rich past. The Fortress of the Tower of London was originally built in 1078 by William the Conqueror and was the symbol of power in London until the late medieval period. It is now one of the four UNESCO World Heritage sites that can be found in London; the others being the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and Saint Margaret's Church, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and Maritime Greenwich where one of the most popular things for tourists to do is stand astride the prime meridian - the Earth's line of 0 degrees longitude - with a foot in both the eastern and western hemispheres at the same time.
Wherever you go in London you will see remnants of its Roman, Tudor, Elizabethan, Edwardian or Victorian past. Even when you are using the Underground, look around you to see memories of the nineteenth century.
That doesn't mean London is stuck in the past. It now stands at the forefront of the fashion, music, food and finance industries. There are 66 Michelin star restaurants in London, a testament to the pull of the city for outstanding chefs; we have London Fashion Week, the Proms, the busiest music venue in the world at the O2, the West End theatre district, and some of the best shopping in the world. You will never be bored in London.
